Valerie Davenport

My name is Valerie Davenport and I have been chosen as the recipient of the vacation that you donated to Send Me On Vacation. First let me start by attempting to Thank You for this incredible opportunity. You can’t imagine how much this vacation means to me and is exactly what is needed after the battle against cancer. My journey began in February of 2013 when I found a lump in my left breast. I couldn’t get into the doctor until April for an exam. I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer on May 3, 2013. I had a partial mastectomy and removed 10 lymph nodes. I have received a year of chemotherapy and 33 rounds of radiation followed by drug therapy for 5 years. Through my journey I found an inner strength I never knew I had and knowing I came from a long line of strong wiled individuals helped. I never knew before I had cancer that I had it in me to be a single mom with two children who looked to me for strength and support, but I did. My family and friends are so proud of me. They swear if you didn’t know I had cancer, you would never know I was sick, except of course for being bald! Maybe there is an actress in me as well as being ONE TOUGH COOKIE. Valerie
