Allison Sanders

My name is Allison Sanders. I am the mother of an adult son, Daniel (33 yrs of age) and two furbabies, Toby and Jazzy. Both of the canine persuasion. I was born in Columbus Oh, and had the fortunate benefit of living all over the United States and Canada. I graduated from high school in Irving, Tx ( a suburb of Dallas) and lived there until 1995, when I transferred to Phoenix Az, as part of a career relocation. I currently live in Phoenix AZ.

In May of 2005 I was having some back pain and asked for an MRI. What was found was inconceivable and terrifying at the same time. I had a tumor wrapped around my spinal cord. The doctors knew this to be a “second source” tumor. Meaning it had spread from somewhere else. After many tests, and procedures I was told that I had Stage IV Breast Cancer.

Teresa my best friend since high school, insisted on coming to visit. I remember telling her to wait until I felt better. Teresa didn’t take no for an answer and came anyway. And so our incredible journey together began. A journey so full of mystery, fear, reflection, faith, learnings, and awakenings.

There was chemo, radiation, biopsies, surgeries, good days and bad days, and my Greatest Friend and my personal Care Giver was by my side for all of it! The only sure thing was that this would be a journey that would change both of us forever! Indeed it did, in all the ways that would be important to us and help us refine and shape our lives toward friendships, family, faith and new beginnings.

After being in “stable disease” for 4 years, I was re-diagnosed in Aug 2012. The cancer had moved to my liver. Since that time I have been in some sort of Chemotherapy. Some were very toxic and some are working.

Teresa and I always knew our strength, beliefs, and friendship would pull us through this journey and put me in a good place to get healthy again. At my original diagnosis I was given 3 months to get my affairs in order. I am happy to say that I am now an 8 year survivor.

I live each day in H.O.P.E. (Healing Optimism/Personal Empowerment)
